[Guest Post] Ben Hennessy’s Favorite Movies, Books, and Why

What are some of your favorites (and why):

Ha! I could be here all day with this, here’s some,

Movies (Classic or Current)

Predator is always a big fav of mine, it’s a monster movie done right.

The secret of Nimh – it’s a such a beautiful film, it’s one fo those kids films that has some really scary sequences in it, it feels like a monster move at times. I can’t watch this enough.

The Thing – This is another master class in horror.

Devils Backbone – A Del Toro film that I feel should be talked about more.

Ninja Scroll – Blew my mind when I first saw this, I didn’t know animation did films like this

TMNT – I‘m huge TMNT fan, the 1990 film is one of my all time favs

The Hunt –  More Betty Gilpin action movies please

Books

Andrej Sapowski’s Witcher series – I can’t get enough of fantasy monster hunter stories, this series is one of the very best.

Scott Lynch’s The lies of Locke Lamora – “If he had a bloody gash across his throat and a physiker was trying to sew it up, Lamora would steal the needle and thread and die laughing.” How could you not love this character?

Max Brooks WWZ – I probably listen to this annually, just when you think you’ve seen it all about zombies Max brooks gives us so many different points of views on the zombie outbreak it’s hard not to want to write you own when you’ve finished it.

Peter V Brett’s The Demon Cycle – This is such a great concept and really enjoyable series. Basically people don’t travel more than daylight allows them too as demons come out after dark.

Justin Cronin’s The passage – I got recommended this recently, it’s so good, I’m not sure I’ve fully recovered from it yet. I’d imagine this book hits parents harder than most.

It’s a Bird by Steven T. Seagle and Teddy Kristiansen- This book blew me away. It’s not your regular Superman story, it’s about a writer trying to figure out an interesting way to write Superman, while dealing with everything else that life is throwing at him.

[Book Tour] Cupcakes Everywhere: One Sweet Tale of Overcoming Infertility by Erin Sarris

Cupcakes Everywhere: One Sweet Tale of Overcoming Infertility by Erin Sarris US Tour - 20TH - 28TH MAY Genre: Children’s picture book Age: 0-6 Book Review: Whether or not you have experience with infertility, Cupcakes Everywhere commits itself to be a sweet picture book meant for the whole family. This is a story I would recommend to be shared with your child, especially in this day and age, as infertility and IVF are still known as taboo subjects. Sarris has a profound ability to communicate her knowledge of infertility and IVF using a simple, yet delicious, comparison--- Cupcakes! Bessa and her vector graphic illustrations also bring a perfect Corporate Memphis feel, appropriate and fitting for a modern-day children's book. All in all, Cupcakes Everywhere is a comforting, heart-to-heart story that can ignite significant conversations with you and your child. I absolutely loved it!
